COMING SOON: Eccentric, colourful, raw—get to know the world by the Mexican photographer Fershow Escarcega👽🌺

In his upcoming book “Queer Latino&Kitsch”, he explores what it means to be from the Mexican periperhy, breaking stereotypes and showcasing the dignity and pride of those who inhabit these spaces.

Fershow Escarcega and Mauro D’Agati first met back in 2013, when Mauro came to Mexico City and was looking for a local fixer. That happened to be Escarcega, and they have been in contact ever since. Now almost everything is ready for his first photobook with 89books, and it really feels like a full cycle moment.

“Queer Latino & Kitsch” is coming this Fall. Stay tuned for the most fun and bright photobook of the season!

Just in: HAN by Antonio Cavicchioni⚡️Visual research of a complex Korean concept “han”, which is often described as a mixture of unresolved resentment, grief and sorrow, yet inevitably intertwined with the latent hope and tenacity.

A deep-seated feeling of being wronged by superior agents, such as fate, government, or foreign agents, combined with a sense of helplessness and an enduring hope for justice, Han is considered by some as an essential element of Korean identity—while the feeling itself is becoming rapidly relatable globally.

Han is coming in a special, small-size format of 11x14,5 cm. Find it soon at our store, or next weekend at the Booklette Book Fair in Vevey, Switzerland—we’ll be by our stand from 12 to 13th September. Images Vevey

Summer is for discovering, and what’s better then letting photography lead you into new worlds? At 89books, we’re particularly keen on travelogue format, so here’s our selection of the latest photobooks with a great storytelling inside:

‣Moroccan Mint by Andrea Angelino Catella: a close-up of the Moroccan streets and people passing by.

‣Framing Taiwan by Luca Tommasi: fleeting visions of the dense urban forms meet the contrasts and modernity of the island.

‣Malo Sutra by Angelo Del Negro: a long-term photographic project studying the society of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its suspended present in between East and West.

‣The Veil of Maya by Antonio Palumbo: Philosophical travelogue through black and white lenses of the photographer. “In India, you only need to walk through the streets and stop to observe what is happening to get the distinct feeling that everything seems to take place on an imaginary ”.

+BONUS: Cities Make Me Dream by Alain Carayol, coming this September. We’ll announce its release as a part of our new drop coming this Fall-Winter. Stay tuned!⏱️

MIRAMAR coming soon! On the Adriatic coast, somewhere between Rimini and Ravenna, which is usually known as a touristic destination, photographer Marco Guidi finds the quieter side of it—still, nostalgic and silent.

His photography is a poetic exploration that catches the spirit of the Riviera Adriatica and those who live their life in it, having a special connection with the vast eternity of the sea.

Guidi is born in San Marino and works as a photographer since 2013, both in a digital and analogue way. We’re excited to have MIRAMAR published with 89books this year—the book is going to be a part of our Fall 26 drop coming this September🔥Stay tuned!

What’s inside the new book by Ricardo Miguel Hernández?👀 Photocollages transform vernacular photography—never intended to be art—into a space of multiple narratives, where personal memory intertwines with social tensions.

Our second book with the Cuban artist, “We Are Captives” combines domestic photography archives from different individuals that he reactivates and gives them a new life and perspective. Such recovered fragments become an expanded territory in which to reflect on identity, belonging, and the fragility of what we remember, allowing what was once destined to fade away to be reborn as a new form of visual storytelling.

The release is now out and ready to be shipped. Contact us at [email protected] if you’re interested to get the first copies💪

In between yet another heatwave, we’re in the process of preparing a new season of 89books—testing papers, editing sequences, rethinking. And while things are finally taking shape, here’s more about two projects that are currently on the table.

One is a series of color Polaroid portraits exploring disguise—project by a multidisciplinary Italo Greek artist Cristina Eléni Kontoglou. A small zine built around strangers, faces, and fleeting identities.

The other is a photobook set in a small seaside town in Italy. Not the Italy of postcards or summer clichés, but one found on quiet roads, in hidden corners, and through the people who inhabit them: young locals, enigmatic women, old sailors, and those whose lives are tied to the sea. A work by Marco Guidi for his project called “Miramar”.

🧩Our new season is coming this September. Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing more soon!

Peek inside “LA MIA TERRA” by Camilla Biella >>

Done in collaboration with the this photo series tells the story of a small rural world, where timeless traditions and everyday rituals continue to bind communities together.

Set in the Po valley, Biella reflects on the importance of keeping local identities alive by celebrating those who do this with resilience, pride, and dignity.🌻

The book is available on demand. Thank you for sharing this amazing project with us!
