My design, the TOPS Knives C.U.T. 4.0 is getting a more EDC-friendly little brother, the C.U.T. 3.0. It is in production and should be available later this year.

The sheath is now finalized and is perfect. TOPS has a new feature in its sheaths - a retention screw. It works beautifully and removes the looseness that is sometimes present in the sheaths. Great idea, TOPS!

Some have asked why I chose to remove the ring and the answer is simple. It makes it more concealable. However, the handle itself is identical to the 4.0, just minus the ring. It feels almost identical in hand and came out exactly how I hoped it would.

If you like the C.U.T. 4.0 but would like something that is legal in more jurisdictions, and is more EDC friendly, the 3.0 will be perfect for you.

It is coming soon. Keep an eye out here, and I will announce when it launches.

TOPSKnives Springfield Armory

As a longtime knife writer and editor, my personal favorite knife pattern is the Kephart. For me, it is the ideal field knife, capable of a host of bushcraft chores.

That said, the Dogwood Custom Knives Kephart reproduction is the closest to the original I have ever used.

Dan spent a great deal of time with a micrometer, measuring every inch of the original (in Ethan Becker’s personal collection) to recreate the original, and he nailed it.

This one was a very special gift from Dan and features scales made from bloodwood that we backpacked out of the Amazon. So, it has very deep and personal meaning to me. Like Dan, it is one of a kind and will be a part of my life forever.

As a fan of the historical Ek Commando Knife Co dagger, I was immediately drawn to the Allen Elishewitz and Les George Ek Integral Folding Knife.

It is a beautifully done tribute to this iconic knife.

When you have a cool boss who can appreciate your taste for good bourbon, you get to try the really good stuff.

While at our Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous at , we stopped in their special spirits room for a taste of some private cask Bushmills Irish bourbon, at $80 an ounce. It was as good as you would expect.
