Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie has vowed that the recent helicopter crash, which claimed eight prominent lives, will not shake her commitment, or that of other public servants, to serving Ghana with full dedication.

During an interview with UTV amid the national mourning period, a visibly emotional Gomashie reflected on the sudden loss of colleagues and military personnel who died in the line of duty.

“My father has passed away, and he will be buried on Saturday. We had been prepared for his passing since he was old, but this particular loss (the helicopter crash) has been especially painful. You dedicated yourself to serving the nation, and while on an important mission, you tragically lost your life.

“This is incredibly difficult for us. However, we must not let this deter us from continuing our work,” she said, fighting back tears.

Ghana is in deep mourning after a devastating military helicopter crash on Wednesday claimed eight lives, including two government ministers and senior military officers. In a somber address to the nation Thursday night, President John Dramani Mahama described the tragedy as both a national disaster and a “deep personal loss,” paying tribute to those he called close friends, trusted colleagues, and devoted public servants.

“This tragedy represents a deep personal loss for me. I shared a close bond with many of those individuals who died. Our nation is grieving, and on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, I extend my deepest condolences to their families, friends and their loved ones,” he said from Jubilee House.

The President emphasized that the victims’ passing was a collective national loss, saying, “Your loss is our loss — a loss of dedicated public servants, intellectuals, and individuals who tirelessly worked for a better Ghana.”

A national memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 9, at 5 p.m. at the State House forecourt, with condolence books available from August 10 to 14 at the Defence and Environment ministries, the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, the NDC head office, and the NADMO offices. A full inter-denominational state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square.

Gospel singer Selina Boateng has taken a firm stance against the growing trend of cosmetic surgery in Ghana’s celebrity circles, insisting that her faith leaves no room for such procedures.

In an interview with Bryt TV, the Medofo Pa singer addressed critics who have urged her to change her appearance because of her body size. Selina said she refuses to be swayed by such comments, choosing instead to focus on healthy living and regular exercise.

“BBL is against the will of God. I don’t know which part of the Bible said that Sarah had any body enhancement. And if we are going by the Bible, I don’t see anywhere that tells me to go have body altercations,” she asserted.

The Creative Arts Agency has indefinitely postponed the Kumasi candlelight vigil for Highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, citing the nation’s period of mourning.

Originally slated for Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Heroes Park in Kumasi, the tribute was set to be the second major memorial event after a successful one in Accra.

In a press statement issued on August 7, 2025, and signed by Mr. Gideon Aryeequaye, the Agency confirmed the change, explaining that the decision follows President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of three days of national mourning from August 7 to 9.
