The highly anticipated new EP from Plaster, Clessidra, marks the return of Gianclaudio Hashem Moniri and Giuseppe Carlini as a duo, following their decision to reform the project in 2023. Their latest collaborative release prior to Clessidra dates back to 2014, making this EP a testament to their renewed creative energy.
The concept of Clessidra revolves around the concept of Time and its inherent possibilities, fluctuations, and inversions. The EP comprises four tracks that collectively offer an immersive and thought-provoking listening experience. The opening track, "L'Ora Di Vetro," showcases a minimalist yet powerful sonic approach, characterized by meticulously calibrated and interconnected sounds. This track echoes the early sound of Plaster.
"Clessidra," the second track, ventures into uncharted territory for Gianclaudio and Giuseppe, incorporating the Didgeridoo as a rhythmic instrument played by Giuseppe and featuring the captivating vocals of Valeria Svizzeri. This track's unique and visionary quality is a testament to their artistic evolution.
The third track, "Sospesi," is built upon layers of overlapping synthesizers, guitar effects, and ethereal atmospheres. Enhanced by Giuseppe's flute and an unexpected conclusion, this track offers a captivating listening experience.
The closing track, "La Chiave Del Silenzio," is characterized by its globular, distorted, and layered sound. It features intriguing drones, distant percussion, subtle rhythmic elements, and a consistent and vibrant energy from beginning to end. This track represents the most experimental aspect of the EP and once again features the vocal talents of Valeria Svizzeri.
It is challenging to categorize this enigmatic and captivating work by Plaster within specific genres. Clessidra is primarily a sonic journey through time, suspending listeners between the past, present, and future. Its strength lies in its ability to enrich the Roman duo's discography and distinguish itself through its exceptional production quality.
