The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shut down a language training center in Cavite for recruiting workers to Germany without the necessary license from government.
Assistant Secretary Francis Ron de Guzman, together with the DMW’s Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB), in coordination with the Municipality of Silang and its local police, padlocked the office of Volant Academy for Language Excellence, Inc. located in Brgy. Lumil, Silang, Cavite.
“The DMW is serious in taking down training centers that offer overseas jobs to their students. This is illegal recruitment because Volant is not licensed by the DMW,” De Guzman said.
Surveillance operations conducted by the DMW-MWPB revealed that Volant has been illegally recruiting their language students to Germany as nurses/caregivers, auto mechanics, baker, butcher, restaurant specialists and security specialists with a promise of Php 60,000 monthly salary.
DMW-MWPB disclosed that applicants are required to undergo a Dual Training Program, which combines vocational training with on-the-job training for a company. They first need to pass German language levels A1 to B2 training and practical job training for eight months.
Volant will promise their trainees a full-time job in Germany, in exchange of Php 515,900 worth of processing fee, language training fee and practical job training fees. Using student visas, the applicants will be sent to Germany and will work part-time for their employers while studying at the same time.
Volant admitted to deploying almost 200 students to Germany.
The DMW is urging other applicants who fell victim to the illegal activities of Volant to contact the MWPB for the filing of cases. MWPB may be contacted through their page at https://www.facebook.com/dmwairtip and through their email at [email protected]. # # #
