We thank the jury for their choice.
Also we are all very happy that the Golden Lion went this year to a great documentary, first time in the 70 year old history of the Festival. A good sign for all.

A few months ago Amiata Records and its offices moved to the historic center of Rome. The building, which hosts the record label and a private university was built in 1882 and with its huge arches, columns and spaces it simply grabs the attention of the people passing by. It has also a chapel inside, which provides opportunity to organize chamber and sacred music concerts for the label's artists.

The Classica Series includes new, never-before-recorded compositions of the past brought to light by noted musicologists and researchers, performances done on rare and precious instruments of the era, and comparisons and contrasts between two interpretations of the same music by the same musician from a distance of fifty years. Highlights of the series include the internationally-acclaimed volumes of "Music of Ancient Rome" performed by the ensemble Synaulia, a group of paleorganologists and musicians dedicated to the study of ancient music. The celebrated "Music of Ancient Rome" recordings present a hypothetical reconstruction of the music of ancient Imperial Rome using original instruments constructed by musician and musicologist Walter Maioli and his research group. The first volume has been an international cultural event in news media and traditional record retail stores as well as in bookshops and museum stores. Its music has been featured in numerous films, including "Gladiator" (Dream/Works) "Midsummer night's dream" (Fox Searchlights Pictures) and "The Village" (Disney).

The Inner Arts Series presents highly creative projects and performances which stretch the boundaries of normal categorization. It's acoustic-instrumental, then ambient, then meditative music then Now Age or rather, no age... Featured are the double-bass player and composer Andrea Donati, Paolo Giaro with Krishna Bhatt on sitar and Debiprasad Gosh on sarod, the pianist Antonio Breschi, Auria Vizia, Adea, the Neji Trio and the Saphir String Quartet. The music is in large part acoustic, its spirit joyful and refined; a cross-fertilization between East and West, North and South; acoustic and electronic; vocal and instrumental; improvisational and notated; spiritual and popular.

The Cutting Edge series features innovative productions of contemporary electronic music, chill-out and lounge. Femme fatale Giorì provides an archetype for French chanson of the 21st century. The Paris-based MJA (Metropolitan Jazz Affair) is at the leading edge of Nu-Jazz, combining their trumpet-and fender rhodes-driven group sound with guest vocalists and saxophonists. Projects such as "Bloom" and the Diana Garden line are "designer compilations" which create a musical and lifestyle atmosphere in collaboration with trend-setting Italian clubs.

Dedicated to contemporary world music, the Roots Series features innovative productions and creative compilations. The series opens with African Angels, a tribute to some of the finest African artists currently on the scene, and with Celtic Angels, a true who's who of contemporary Celtic music and a touching celebration of Celtic sound. Roots focuses on emerging trends in world music with the latest hybrid styles, rhythms and state of the art production techniques. We are also developing some interesting "in-house" projects such as overtone/throat singers from Tuva, the group In a Split Second, and the Celtic female vocalist and composer Surabhi with her beautiful Celtic melodies and moods. Purely traditional world music will continue to be housed in our Secret World Series, so Roots is our way of growing and flowing with the changes in contemporary music, as much a creative process for us as it is for the artists involved.

The New Music Series presents performances by contemporary composers such as Arvo Paert, Henrik Gorecki, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Hans Otte, Michael Vetter and Astor Piazzolla. Younger, perhaps less known, though certainly no less interesting composers include Gianfranco Pernaiachi, Ludovico Einaudi, Savio Riccardi and Thomas Fortmann. We are pleased to present creative new ensembles and solists such as harpist Cecilia Chailly and flutist Andrea Ceccomori, as well as Michael Vetter and Terry Riley, great interpreters of their own works. The editorial line of the New Music series is addressed to all listeners interested in contemporary music and especially in the American minimalist movement and its European branches, in post-minimalism, neo-romanticism, and in particular to all forms of new sacred music.

Secret World presents ethnic and acoustic performances from around the globe, singled out from rare or even secret traditions. Examples are ritual music from Laos and Tibet, Javanese Gamelan and sacred vocal music from Bali, Balafon from Burkina Faso and rare musical traditions from India. Secret World includes trance reinterpretations of the ancient Tarantella ritual by Antonio Infantino, east Cuban Son by "Club Musical Oriente Cubano" and the award-winning "Naked Spirit" by the extraordinary Tuvan singer Sainkho. The artist roster also includes the Mancuso Brothers who have become cultural icons of their native Sicily though numerous international concerts, media accolades and their appearance in the film "The Talented Mr. Ripley". Acclaimed polyphonic treatments of traditional songs have earned the female vocal ensemble "Faraualla" the reputation of being the "Zap'Mamas of the Mediterranean". Secret World broaches innovative experiments in which two cultures, geographically distant from one another yet musically and spiritually alike, draw inspiration from each other and create something entirely new for the first time, as in the case of "Meeting of Angels", featuring Gregorian chant and classical music from northern India interpreted by the Gilles Binchois Ensemble and Ustad Nishat Khan. The recording "Brizzi do Brasil" sees contemporary Italian classical composer Aldo Brizzi bringing together leading popular Brazilian and Portuguese singers.
