In December 2019, almost six years ago, we released our first video to announce the birth of DRAPsound, proving that it was possible to profile a real amplifier even using modelers not originally designed for that purpose, such as Helix. At the time, only a few understood the innovative potential of this discovery and the fact that we were the first in the world to achieve it. Six years later, we are still unsure whether other competitors have adopted the same approach, or with what level of quality.
Today we are republishing that video to tell its story once again and to explain its content more clearly. When the image of the real amplifier appears in the frame, you hear the purely analog, tube-driven sound recorded in the studio. When the image of the Helix appears, you hear the digital profile created for Helix. At minute 3:00, you can listen to the comparison on the clean tone.
Under the fingers, nothing changes.
Three years ago, we also organized a blind test in the studio with both amateur and professional guitarists, including some of the most talented players in Italy. Everyone confirmed the same result: no one could tell the analog amplifier from its digital profile.
A special thanks goes to our longtime friend and collaborator, Salvo T. Correri – a professional session guitarist who has toured with artists such as Baccini, Vanoni, Gatto Panceri, and many others – who, despite the limited video equipment available at the time, gave a crucial contribution to creating that first video. That was the beginning of a great adventure that continues today: DRAPsound.
