Have you been to Mackinac Island?

Mackinac Island is one of the most charming small towns in the USA and is truly an underrated gem in the Midwest that needs to be on your bucket list.

We visited this past spring and I’ve got to say, I think it was the perfect place for a getaway, especially with kids. Think cozy inns, bike rides around the island, fudge tastings, horse-drawn carriage rides, and stunning lake views. And the best part? No worrying about your kids running in front of cars (I mean, still watch out for the horses and bikes, of course).

Everything you need to know to visit Mount Solaro👇

Rising 589 meters above the sea, Mount Solaro is the highest point on the island of Capri. To enjoy the sweeping views from the top you have to either hike up (I’m going to pass 😂) or take the chairlift.

Here’s what you need to know to take the chairlift:

- Open daily all year round, but be sure to check times as they change based on the season
- Located on the Anacapri side of the island
- 14€ round trip or 11€ one way
- If you are afraid of heights, might be best to sit this one out
- There’s a restaurant at the top for snacks and drinks

The BEST way to experience Capri, Italy is by boat. Here’s what you need to know 👇

Where? Tours can depart from Capri, Sorrento, Naples, or Positano. We were staying on Capri for the night, so we caught a tour that left right from the marina, but if you are planning a day trip to Capri, there are tours that leave from the mainland and include time to explore the island by foot as well.

How much? We recommend splurging on a private tour which allows you tailor the tour to what you want most. Private tours start around €250 depending on how long you want to be on the water. We did a 4 hour tour and it was the perfect amount of time to see all the sights and have time to swim.

What will you see? Many tours circle the entire island passing by the famous Faraglioni, the Blue Grotto (costs extra to visit), White Grotto, Punta Carena lighthouse, and many other beautiful sights.

Ready for your next date night? We have made it a priority (completely selfless I swear 😉) to find the best date night restaurants around Indianapolis. Here’s part 2 of our date night restaurant roundup 👇

1. 1933 Lounge - perfect for pre- or post-dinner cocktails on the patio or a full meal in their speakeasy style restaurant.
2. Vivante - an elegant restaurant with a beautiful patio located along the Monon trail and part of (perfect for a staycation or out-of-town visitors). If you don’t save room for the chocolate entrement, you are missing out 😛
3. Monti - a new Italian restaurant in Fountain Square that made us feel like we were back in Italy. You won’t be disappointed by anything on the menu, but make sure to get the arancini!
4. Dean’s Steakhouse - located in the JW Marriott downtown, this new addition to the downtown dining scene is fantastic. The food is incredible and the restaurant is intimate and cozy. Perfect for a splurge date night!
5. Verde - we’ve been visiting Verde (the Ironworks location) for years and even dreamt about it while living in Iowa. Get the queso and the house marg, it’ll change your life!

Where should we go next?

Here’s exactly what you need to know about the Pipiwai Trail (especially if you are planning to visit with kids) 👇

The trailhead is located inside the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park, at the very end of the Road to Hana. You’ll need to pay the national park entrance fee, but no timed reservation is required.

Pipiwai Trail details:
• 3.6 miles out and back
• 2–3 hours (plan longer with kids)
• Gradual incline
• Can be muddy + humid (it rained off and on while we were there and it was very slick in spots)

Highlights along the way:
– A massive banyan tree about 0.5 miles in
– A bamboo forest with a wooden boardwalk
– 400-ft Waimoku Falls at the end

Is it kid-friendly? Yes, with realistic expectations. It is long for toddlers. We carried our 2 year old the entire way which was a challenge. It would be better for younger kids that can be in a carrier or older kids that are more efficient walkers. Would we do it again? Absolutely! So if it’s something you really want to do and are comfortable carrying your kid, then go for it!
