PRESENTAZIONE DELLA RIVISTA EX-NOVO / Presentation of EX-NOVO Journal

Per riguadagnare il suo posto al centro del dibattito culturale, l’archeologia deve recuperare il suo rapporto con la stretta attualità, riconoscendo il ruolo del patrimonio culturale e del suo studio, tutela e fruizione nell’attuale contesto politico nazionale ed internazionale. Noi crediamo fermamente che l’archeologia debba relazionarsi più direttamente con l’attualità ed il pubblico, infrangendo l’isolamento accademico e facendosi promotrice del dialogo e parte attiva nella risoluzione dei problemi del settore. A tale proposito siamo qui per rilanciare la sfida di EX-NOVO che affronterà le attuali tematiche di discussione in campo archeologico e negli studi sul patrimonio. Sarà un giornale aperto al mondo con collaborazioni con studiosi e ricercatori italiani e stranieri ed avrà nell'open access una delle sue caratteristiche di forza principali. To regain its place at the centre of the cultural debate, archeology should recover its relationship with the actuality, recognizing the role of cultural heritage and of his study, protection and fruition within the current world political context. We firmly believe that archeology should relate more directly with current events and the audience, breaking the academic isolation, being the promoter of dialogue and a leading force in solving the problems of the field. In this regard, we are here to raise the challenge of EX-NOVO that will address current topics of discussion in the field of archeology and heritage studies. It will be a journal open to the world, with collaborations with Italian and foreign scholars, professionals and researchers and will have one of its core strengths in the open access format. La investigadora Elsa Cardoso ha publicado dos contribuciones en Ex Novo que exploran, desde perspectivas complementarias, la responsabilidad académica y los usos contemporáneos de al-Andalus.

🔹 En “A Conversation Between the Sword and the Neck: On Censorship, Colonialism and Academic Responsibility”, Cardoso explica su decisión de retirar dos trabajos de la revista Al-Masāq tras la censura de una referencia al colonialismo y al apartheid israelí. El texto reflexiona sobre los límites de la libertad intelectual y las estructuras que moldean el debate sobre Palestina.

🔹 En su reseña del libro de Eric Calderwood, On Earth or in Poems: The Many Lives of al-Andalus (Harvard University Press, 2023), analiza cómo al-Andalus es reinterpretado globalmente, alertando sobre lecturas esencialistas de este pasado.
