Chicago singing legend Josie Falbo dies at 82

She was largely unknown by casual fans outside of her hometown of Chicago, but Josephine “Josie” Falbo possessed a voice that became part of lives of millions of listeners—often without them ever knowing her name. For more than four decades, Falbo was among Chicago’s busiest and most in-demand studio singers, whose voice traveled the world. Sadly, her family announced that she has died at age 82.

CIAO holds holiday lunch, makes donations

Chautauqua Italian American Organization – CIAO – concluded the year with a Christmas luncheon at the White Inn. Nance Ortolano welcomed members and introduced new members, Richard and Sue Michaels. Attendees received Christmas cards and candy canes.

Welcome to the Catholic Community of St. Frances Cabrini in Omaha, NE

The Spanish Mission style church in the heart of Omaha’s “Little Italy” neighborhood is the third home for this worshipping community. The parish history begins with St. Mary’s Church, the first Catholic Church built in Omaha in 1856. Located on the east side of 8th Street between Harney and Howard, the structure was too small from the beginning and plans began almost immediately to build a bigger church.

Festa del Tricolore 2026: happy birthday to the Italian fllag!

Today’s celebrations for the Festa del Tricolore placed the Italian flag at the center of national life, with ceremonies in Rome attended by President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The anniversary marks January 7, 1797, when the green, white, and red banner was officially adopted, an event that took place 228 years ago and laid the foundations for one of Italy’s most enduring national symbols.

A Century Later, This Historic Italian Automaker Is Back

In 2026, the name Itala will make its return to European roads. The DR Automobiles Group recently announced that it had acquired the historic Italian brand, which wrote some of the most important chapters in the country’s automotive history more than a century ago. The goal is to have the new Itala brand up and running by the end of 2026.

Lawmakers mourn loss of Doug LaMalfa

Italian American Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) died Tuesday at 65, prompting tributes from his colleagues across the political spectrum. LaMalfa had represented California’s 1st Congressional District since 2013. Many of his fellow California representatives shared their memories with LaMalfa.

Finding My Future in Saronno: The Softball Experience That Changed Everything

I originally traveled to Italy to visit family for Easter, not realizing the trip would completely reshape my softball journey. Before we left, my dad, Frank, spoke with Chris Vaccaro, Director of the Italian American Baseball Foundation, about the possibility of my practicing with a softball team while abroad. He reached out on our behalf, and thanks to his efforts, I was invited to train with Saronno Softball.
