Let’s pray hard for the Church and her leaders against the power of the underworld 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Pope Leo XIV has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the bishop of Mozambique, Quelimane Bishop Osório Citora Afonso, who was shot dead at his residence on June 6. A press release issued from the Vatican said, Pope Leo learned about the death of the Mozambique bishop “with sorrow of the grave act of violence.” Bishop Osório was found dead in the early hours of June 6 inside the episcopal residence, which the authorities said was caused by gunshot during a home invasion. Bishop Osório, who was leading the Quelimane Diocese, had also served as apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Beira. The Holy See statement said that the Pope “joins in prayer with the people of the Dioceses and of Mozambique in this hour of bewilderment, so that the Lord may give them consolation.” Meanwhile, Aid to the Church in Need, the papal charity, also mourned the bishop’s passing, saying that the murder “adds yet another dark cloud over the Church in Mozambique.”
