The Sound Exhibition Series is curated by fold/interval and presents sound works exclusively commissioned from selected artists and composers. Unreleased and previously unheard, these works are approached in much the same manner as visual artworks within an exhibition context: they may be experienced at settantaventidue solely for the duration of the exhibition, through the specially developed Futura Research sound system.
Masaya Kato’s flux (still) is composed of the sounds of sand and water, subtle electronic textures, extended techniques on piano, and improvisation on the Fender Rhodes. Conceptually, within a space composed of non-pitched sounds, excluding the Fender Rhodes, a sense of physicality emerges through the act of performance on the instrument. By tracing one’s own body into that space, the work arises from an anticipation of dissolving and merging oneself into it.
Like all exhibitions hosted at settantaventidue, the Sound Exhibition Series is open to visitors during the gallery’s regular opening hours
