The maiden meeting of traditional rulers in Aniocha/Oshimili took place on Saturday in Asaba with a resolution to work together to promote peace and security in the Federal Constituency.
The meeting, which was at the instance of the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, noted that inter – community collaboration was crucial to addressing security challenges, as it would help to forge a common front and ensure greater safety of the people.
The traditional rulers also resolved to support their counterparts who had yet to receive their Staff of Office, urging them to remain resolute, while promising to continue to intervene on their behalf to facilitate their recognition by government.
The issue of code of conduct for traditional rulers also engaged the attention of the meeting and it was resolved that copies of the document would be made available to the monarchs to keep them abreast of the right conduct, as custodians of the culture and tradition of their kingdoms.
The meeting dwelt extensively on social relevance of traditional rulers, wherein the need to hold elected and appointed public office holders in the Federal Constituency, including the House of Reps member, members of the State Assembly, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen, amongst others, accountable was discussed, and resolved that in time to come there might be need to invite them to give account of their stewardship.
The traditional rulers resolved to meet bi – monthly and to pursue their resolution with missionary zeal to ensure they remained a strong and virile body capable of speaking with one voice whenever necessary.
The meeting was attended by the traditional rulers of Ubulu-Unor, Issele-Uku, Ukala, Atuma-Iga, Onicha-Ugbo, Idumuje-Unor, Idumuogo, Okpanam among others.
