⚜️ This Day in History ⚜️
On April 4, 1893, Freemasonry’s first Grand Lodge dedicated to the initiation and inclusion of both men and women as equals was founded in Paris, France by Georges Martin, Marie Deraismes, and several others. This Grand Lodge was formed under the original name, “Grande Loge Symbolique Écossaise Le Droit Humain” (Scottish Rite Grand Lodge Human Right), which was later changed to the current name, “The International Order of Freemasonry for Men & Women Le Droit Humain.”
For 132 years, Le Droit Humain has been at the Freemasonic forefront of equality and inclusion. Not only was L.D.H. the first Masonic Order to restore women’s place in ancient and authentic Freemasonry, its membership has always been open to people of good character and conduct regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity, or sexual preference/orientation. Even more, L.D.H. respects the absolute freedom of conscience, philosophy, religion, belief, and opinions of its members, all of whom truly come from all walks of life.
Today, Le Droit Humain has Lodges, Jurisdictions, and Federations in more than 60 countries and continues to work toward Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity for all.
