This time, I raised my hands. I gave up.

Flickering, shadows, lights coming from only two corners.
The antiflickering did what it could, but more than sixty percent of the shots were lost.

And, of course, the most powerful punches hid in the dark —
a black bar cutting through the moment. Amen.
I’m sorry I couldn’t truly show who these fighters are,
what happens when they step into that ring.

Because every match is a battle.
Against the opponent.
Against fatigue.
Against hunger, pain, and expectations that can crumble in a heartbeat.

But even when the light fails them, their strength remains.
Their truth.
The raw, simple beauty of those who choose to try again, every single time.

I have no words to describe what I’m feeling right now. Standing here, witnessing these arrivals in Lampedusa, I can’t help but feel so small — and almost ashamed — for ever complaining about my own struggles. Just a few hundred meters away, real tragedies unfold. Lives that have crossed the sea, carrying pain, hope, and the simple will to survive. It’s impossible to stay indifferent.

[Love]
What does love mean, and what does it mean to love? I think it’s impossible to give a universal definition—except perhaps that you *feel* love for something or someone when you sense that you are in your element when physical boundaries dissolve, and you experience a sense of fusion with what surrounds you. Whether that “something” is a person, an environment, or a *moment*, it doesn’t make much difference.

This feeling of conscious surrender and fusion is what makes effort disappear, what makes your eyes shine, what drives you to achieve goals, or makes you say, *“It was worth it.”*

I love what I do. I love the people I photograph, trying to erase my own presence to capture what they feel, to become part of that moment.

The moment captured in these photos was the preparation for the Italian Elite Championships in December 2024.

A *moment of love*? I’d say yes.
