A bit of catching up. This happened via while I was in 🇿🇦

“… ci tenevo a ringraziare Identità Golose, la Guida Bollicine del Mondo e Cinzia Benzi per questo premio come Comunicatore 2025.

Grazie davvero per questo premio. Lo condivido con tutti quelli che credono che il vino sia cultura, territorio, relazione e anche un po’ di sano caos creativo.”

Grateful. That is all 🙏🏾

You can say whatever you want to say about the Moretti Cuseri family but they sure know how to throw a party!

Last night we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Oreno on Ponte Buriano.

Many believe this is the bridge Leonardo da Vinci painted in the background of the Mona Lisa according to Amedeo who spoke on behalf of the family.

What is not up for debate is that Ponte Buriano is the most famous of the Seven Bridges that gave Tenuta Sette Ponti its name, making it a rather fitting place to celebrate Oreno’s silver anniversary.

Twenty five years later, the bridge is still a mystery, the Mona Lisa is still smiling, and Oreno is still looking pretty good for its age.

Mona Lisa wasn’t the only one smiling last night😝 That is all.

We slept in Cape Town, but let’s be honest, we basically lived at Idiom.

Not quite Out of Africa, but we were blessed with a double rainbow, even in the rain.

Idiom’s own website probably describes the setting best: “at the top of the mountainous vineyard on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains,” marking the southernmost part of the Stellenbosch wine region, with “panoramic 360-degree views overlooking the entire False Bay basin and the Cape.”

This was just a 30 minute break with Davide, Giacomo, Natalino and Ranger Andrew, while Andrea was fixing the TV screen for the masterclass.

PS: we also ran a masterclass. Minor detail😂

We got wet. It was absolutely worth it.
Making every moment count.
Grazie Roberto for making this happen.

Once a year, Swartland Open Day opens the doors for a walk-around tasting of The Estate Wines of Mullineux. Andrea was leaving for Stateside the next day so…

On 6 June 2026, Andrea and Chris Mullineux invited guests to taste through the wines alongside seasonal Swartland soups and regional cheeses, each selected to reflect the personality of the wines.

I was particularly happy to see the 2020 Mullineux SCHIST Chenin Blanc Magnum on the lineup. Andrea had brought the same wine to Etna last month and it remains one of my all-time favorite Chenins.

And speaking of Etna 🌋, Andrea shared that she is planning to plant Carricante next year at Roundstone. Naturally, that got my attention. A Swartland interpretation of Carricante? Count me curious!

Honestly, we can learn a thing or two from how they do this here in South Africa. Limited, thoughtful, authentic, and deeply rooted in place.

One day only. Maximum terroir.

P.S. I took an Uber 🚘 to Roundstone Farm and discovered that in Cape Town you can select a “Women Driver” option. I thought that was a pretty brilliant idea.

When people ask me what my favorite wine is, I always give the same answer: it’s the last wine you shared with your favorite wine people. 🍷❤️

In my case, that often means spending time with my favorite VIA Italian Wine Ambassadors.

A special thank you to Pedro, Gabby, and Roberto for all your support today. It takes a village to spread the gospel of Italian wine, and I couldn’t ask for better company along the journey. And today was in Cape Town 🇿🇦 🥂

Follow to see what we’re up to here…
