🇬🇧📖 Every book has its own story, but some are born as intimate, precious objects.
Such is the case with Robert Frank – Mary’s Book, published by MFA Publications: a facsimile of the notebook the photographer created in 1949 for Mary Lockspeiser, weaving together images and words like a visual love letter.
The new edition recreates that same atmosphere with a complex editorial project: two different papers – one of them pigmented – alternate to enhance text and images, while a sewn booklet, kept inside the volume, becomes an essential part of the work. It is held in place by a vertical bellyband applied to the back cover.
The booklet itself is an object within the object: the photographs are printed with targeted spot UV, recreating the glossy effect of real photographic prints. A detail that turns reproduction into a tactile experience, preserving the poetic strength of the original.

Così è per Robert Frank – Mary’s Book, pubblicato da MFA Publications: facsimile del taccuino che il fotografo realizzò nel 1949 per Mary Lockspeiser, intrecciando immagini e parole come in una lettera visiva.
La nuova edizione restituisce quella stessa atmosfera con un progetto editoriale complesso: due carte diverse – una pigmentata – si alternano per valorizzare testi e immagini, mentre un booklet cucito, custodito all’interno del volume, diventa parte integrante dell’opera. A tenerlo fermo è una fascetta verticale applicata in terza di copertina.
Il booklet è un oggetto nell’oggetto: le fotografie sono stampate con spot UV mirato, così da restituire la brillantezza di una vera stampa fotografica. Un dettaglio che rende la riproduzione un’esperienza materica, capace di mantenere intatta la forza poetica dell’originale.
