The new asphalted road in Islington, Portland, a project initially met with skepticism by some residents, is now approaching completion, with the final aspects of the Sparks Program Project initiated yesterday. Contractors forecast the asphalt will be finished by Wednesday, assuming timely progress. Prime Minister Andrew Holness has made a commitment to formally open the road upon its completion.

This is the most interesting photograph since the hurricane, as most of the players in the Blue Lagoon closure August 29th 2022 are caught in one place - coincidental? Hell no!

The Senior Portland Parish Court Judge will hand down her decision on December 12th on an injunction filed by the plaintiffs in the beach access rights case.

The plaintiffs' lawyer argued that the path in question from the main road has been used by the community for more than 60 years to access the Blue Lagoon mineral springs, Blue Lagoon, and the public beach without interference, and therefore the path is protected by the Prescription Rights Act as a public pathway.

The lawyer for the 3rd defendant, Blue Hole Holdings Limited, argued without presenting evidence that there was a fence at the location but it was damaged during last year's hurricane, so replacement of the fence was necessary, thereby blocking the pathway.

The lawyers for the Portland Municipal Corporation and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, both public entities, joined arguments put forward by private individuals and private companies and did not protect the public interest.

Jamaica is looking to partner with the Clinton Foundation to assist with Hurricane Melissa recovery, according to Minister Olivia Grange, who is in charge of Government. The announcement followed a meeting with former United States President Bill...

As a result of Hurricane Melissa and damage to our communication infrastructure Portland Parish News has been at best spotty bringing our online News.

The public systems seem to be getting back into place, as they improve so will our reports and opinions, thanks for your patience.

Jamaica suffered a devastating blow as a result of the hurricane Melissa 🌀 we at Portland Parish News in association with JABBEM mourn the loss of lives and grieve the loss of property.

We know Jamaicans are a resilient people and we will rebuild, please be mindful because of the extent and severity of the damage this will take time.

Portland Parish News is grateful for the outpouring of volunteers and various aid organizations, governments and NGO'S that have already pledged support toward recovery.

The work has just begun let us join together that a stronger Jamaica may emerge at the end of this recovery.

We will rebuild stranger,

The devastation in Falmouth, Trelawny, rivals that of Black River, St Elizabeth, according to Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie, who described the post-hurricane destruction there as “frightening”. After a nearly five-hour tour of the town on Saturday, McKenzie said the extent of the damage to infrastructure, public buildings, and markets was among the worst he has seen since Hurricane Melissa made landfall.
