The Story of Jamaica Town in Limón, Costa Rica 🇨🇷🇯🇲
More than 150 years ago, Jamaicans arrived on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica to build the Atlantic Railroad. Many stayed, creating communities that preserved their language, food, music, and traditions in the heart of Limón.
Today, Jamaica Town is a vibrant reminder of that legacy—where patois echoes in conversation, reggae fills the air, roast breadfruit and ackee & saltfish are staples, and football stars trace their roots to this proud Afro-Caribbean community.
