From October 16–19, Jamaica will once again showcase the diversity and strength of our entertainment product, with Cardi B & Friends headlining at the National Stadium on Sunday, October 18, her first stadium concert anywhere in the Caribbean.

OAJ joins the reggae community in mourning the passing of Fantan Mojah (Owen Moncrieffe), who died on July 14, 2026, at age 49 just weeks before his 50th birthday.

A Rastafarian firebrand and one of the defining voices of conscious reggae, Fantan Mojah rose from humble beginnings as a window washer in St Elizabeth to become one of Jamaica’s most powerful vocal talents. From his breakthrough Hail the King to the anthemic Rasta Got Soul, his music carried messages of faith, resilience, and social truth to audiences around the world.

His unique folk voice will echo through every soundsystem, every festival stage, every riddim that carried his message of righteousness.

A Giant Has Fallen
Stephen “Franno” Francis has passed. Co-founder and technical director of MVP Track & Field Club the man who proved that Jamaican athletes, trained on Jamaican soil by Jamaican coaches, could conquer the world.

He was 64. He died just one day after his birthday, following a period of illness the club confirmed just last week.

Think of the names that came through his hands: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Asafa Powell. Elaine Thompson-Herah. Shericka Jackson. Tajay Gayle. World records. Olympic golds. A generation of champions built at UTech, not overseas.

Franno wasn’t soft with his words and he didn’t need to be his results spoke plenty. He earned the Order of Jamaica in 2017 for it. But his real legacy isn’t the medals. It’s the blueprint. He showed the world Jamaica didn’t need to export its talent to develop it.

We were invited to the Jamaica screening of the first 2 episodes of Possession a series written by Carla Krome & directed by Storm Saulter.

This series which Storm calls a TROPICAL NOIR is soooo, exciting, haunting and gritty the story follows an ambitious bi-racial lawyer who travels from the UK to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim, only to discover the disputed estate is the same plantation that haunts her nightmares.

Kanya King CBE, founder and CEO of the MOBO Awards, passed away on June 3rd, 2026, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was 57.

Thirty years ago, she remortgaged her home alone, without institutional backing, without industry support to build a stage for Black music at a time when the world told her no one cared. Six weeks later, the first MOBO Awards broadcast to the nation. And nothing was ever the same again.

She didn't just create an awards show. She created a movement. A platform that reached hundreds of millions of people across the globe and gave Black artists, Black creatives, and Black culture the recognition they had always deserved.

She faced every obstacle — and her illness — with courage, faith, and an absolute refusal to be diminished.

Her legacy transcends genre, geography, and generation. The 2026 MOBO Awards will be dedicated entirely to her memory.
