What happens when two independent publishers from different sides of the Atlantic sit down together? 🌿

Last week, our founder Tanya Batson-Savage joined Johnny Temple, founder of Brooklyn-based Akashic Books, for a publishing workshop hosted by

Two indie presses. Two different markets. One very honest conversation about the challenges of doing this work outside the mainstream, and what it actually takes to build a publishing house on your own terms. They also discussed the different avenues to publishing your work, giving these burgeoning writers insight into marketing their own work.

The pathways to publishing are rarely straight. But they exist.

Thank you to Pree Writing Studio for making space for these conversations. 🖤

Have you ever read (or heard) the dynamic collection, Riddim and Riddles, by writer, comedian and actor, Owen ‘Blakka’ Ellis? No? Well, you’re in luck!

The audiobook is available for purchase via the link in our bio! It’s also available on Audible and Odiyo.

Riddim and Riddles is a masterclass in Caribbean language, rhythm, and the quiet intimacy of a people who have always known how to say everything between the lines.

You just heard a snippet of a featured poem in the collection called, ‘After Marley’s Kaya’ . It grounds the listener in something deeply personal; a feeling of witnessing the kind of secret that belongs to someone else but that you find yourself holding carefully, like it was always meant to find you.

Interested to hearing more? Walk, don’t run to our website, Audible and Odiyo! The physical copy is also available for purchase on our website!

It’s Read Caribbean Month and we’re so excited, we’re going live every Thursday!

P.S. It’s also Audiobook Month! And we’re starting with someone who understands exactly why Caribbean voices deserve to be heard. 🎙️

Join us this Thursday as we sit down with Saeed Thomas — founder of Odiyo, the Caribbean audio platform built to preserve and amplify our stories through sound, and co-founder of M-One, one of Jamaica’s leading video production companies.

We’ll be talking Caribbean storytelling, audio as a medium, and why the way we sound is just as important as what we say.

Every Thursday. New guest. Real conversation.

Set your reminder 👆🏾 We’ll see you there.
