Hurricane Melissa made landfall at category 5 in eastern Westmoreland and existed Jamaica at category 3 near Falmouth, Trelawny. Melissa has since restrengthened into a category 4 hurricane and is expected to make landfall in eastern Cuba.

At 10:00pm JA time, category 4 Hurricane Melissa had sustained winds of 215 km/h (130 mph). The center of Hurricane Melissa was approximately 115 kilometers north of Port Maria, St. Mary. The system was moving in a northeasterly direction at 15 km/h (9 mph) towards the eastern section of Cuba. Melissa made landfall at New Hope near Whitehouse, Westmoreland earlier today as a category 5 hurricane which devastated sections of Jamaica. Currently, tropical storm conditions continue to affect sections of the island, especially across northern parishes. It is expected that conditions across Jamaica will improve tomorrow as Melissa moves further away.

At 10:00pm JA time, category 5 Hurricane Melissa had sustained winds of 280 km/h (175 mph). The center of Hurricane Melissa was approximately 160 kilometers south of Negril, Westmoreland. The system was moving in a north-northeasterly direction at 4 km/h (2 mph) towards the western section of Jamaica. Conditions will worsen across the island over the next 24hrs, especially across western and central parishes.

At 7:00pm JA time, category 5 Hurricane Melissa had sustained winds of 280 km/h (175 mph). The center of Hurricane Melissa was approximately 160 kilometers south of Negril, Westmoreland. The system was moving in a northwesterly direction at 4 km/h (2 mph) and appears to be stalling once more.

At 12:50pm JA time, category 5 Hurricane Melissa was still strengthening with sustained winds now at 280 km/h (175 mph). Having been almost stationary, the center of Hurricane Melissa was about 230 kilometers (145 miles) southwest of Kingston and approximately 175 kilometers south of Black River, St. Elizabeth. The system is now turning towards Jamaica and was moving west-northwest at 6 km/h (3 mph).

The center of Hurricane Melissa was about 230 kilometers (145 miles) southwest of Kingston and approximately 180 kilometers south of Black River, St. Elizabeth. The system was moving towards the west at 6 km/h (3 mph).
