On a flight to record with the renowned musician Myazstro Benjy Myaz in Kingston Jamaica, Vernie already excited, motivated and ready, is seated in her seat, when she glances up; and there is the quintessential Queen of Reggae, Ms. Marcia Griffiths also boarding her flight. Vernie took the meet, as a sign that she was on the right track, pun not intended.
Born in Montserrat and raised in the UK from 3 months, Vernie carries a voice that bridges cultures, and eras of sound. Music first found her in church, where harmonies filled the air long before she ever stepped onto a stage. Those early years sparked a lifelong passion and laid the foundation for a style rooted deeply in emotion, spirituality, and soul.
Growing up in the UK, she fell in love with the smooth, romantic pulse of lovers rock—a genre that mirrored the warmth of her spirit and gave her room to explore storytelling through melody. At 19, she immigrated to the United States, where her sound expanded again, this time absorbing the richness of R&B. The fusion of these influences became her signature: reggae heart, lovers rock warmth, and R&B soul.
Over the years, Vernie has lent her tone and technique to notable reggae artists such as Warrior King, Yaarcore, Tasha T and Lutan Fire on recordings and live stages. With a voice that feels like comfort and conviction at once, she adds depth to every project she touches.
Now stepping further into her own artistry, she creates music that celebrates love, vulnerability, resilience, and the human experience—songs made to be felt as much as heard. Whether delivering harmonies in the background or commanding the mic in the spotlight, her presence is undeniable and her message clear: music is home.
