Close your eyes and picture Half-Way Tree. What do you see? What do you smell?
For our Art Director , “HWT is a place much more vibrant in the mind's eye than could be captured on camera. The uneven asphalt, cracked concrete, old paint peeling off and decades-old rust are imperfections represented by the imperfections left in the illustration process of these pieces. Sketch lines still show in places where rendering was left incomplete, wobbly lines were not redrawn and fixes were hastily painted over, giving these backgrounds the authenticity we aimed for with 's Duppy Detective Tashia”

This iconic Jamaican 🇯🇲 location, the Halfway Tree Transport Centre, is a key setting in ’s choice-driven adventure game, Duppy Detective Tashia. It’s also featured in the trailer we produced with Art Direction by . He shared:

“After going out in the field and taking pictures, I couldn’t help but notice how much a photograph doesn’t tell you what Halfway Tree is really like. It’s bright, loud and constantly moving. As the sun rises and falls, colours shift and shadows change shape. I can’t in good conscience paint the roads dark grey and expect viewers to understand the atmosphere and mood of the location that the animated characters are experiencing.”

Recently we had the privilege of being treated to genuine, homegrown storytelling at one of Jamaica’s film festivals, 'The Shot List' by JAFTA. It was clear that this experience was curated by creatives, for creatives. We sat on our blankets, ate popcorn and feasted on high-quality films produced by Caribbean and International filmmakers. The event presented high-quality films by Caribbean and international filmmakers and featured workshops led by industry experts. The quality of the films rivalled Hollywood productions, and it was inspiring to see our work so well-received! As animators, we were grateful that people enjoyed watching Kam Kam. There’s nothing like knowing your work is admired by your home crowd. We felt welcomed, inspired, and refreshed, knowing that the future of Caribbean film is in safe hands.
