The Womens 100 metres champion at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 will be decided on the opening day with all three rounds of the event to feature on th first day of the Olympics.
For the first time in history athletics at the Olympics will run the entire length of the Games starting on day one and running through to the final day.
These were confirmed today following the publication of the Olympic schedule.
The athletics competition will begin with a bang on Saturday July 15, 2028, with all three rounds of the womens 100 metres including the final
The menâs 10,000m and womenâs shot put finals will also feature in the opening session, followed by the menâs 100 metres final on day two.
In total, athletics will be contested across 13 days between July 15-30
Finals will feature in 17 of the 20 sessions, with the schedule carefully crafted to allow the maximum number of potential doubles â such as the 100metres and the 200metres, âŠâŠthe 200metres and 400meters double plus the relays, the 800metres and 1500metres, 1500metres and the 5000metres, in addition to the 5000 and 10,000metres double, and the long jump and triple jump double.
This opens the door for stars such as Noah Lyles, Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden to emulate the heroics of LA 1984 Olympic legend Carl Lewis, while also enabling middle- and long-distance doubles reminiscent of past Olympic greats.
World Athletics will now work with the LA28 Organising Committee over the next 2.5 years to finalise the detailed timetable.
The LA 2028 Olympic Games will take place from July 14 to 30 2028, featuring more than 10,000 athletes from about 200 nations competing in 35 sports.
