Dean A-Plus got interested in making music at the age of 16 when influenced by some of his family members who are musicians, and by some of his peers from high school who did their own music. The "A-Plus" from his stage name was inspired by one of his school mates thinking that the young artiste had some great future potential. As years went by, Dean had been quietly doing music on an occasional b

asis, but is now looking to get his songs verified and certified. So stay tuned for updates in the near future as the distribution process is undergoing.

Song 6 of 25, "Real Fake". Composed October 2016, recorded September 2025. All master and song composition rights reserved.

Trivia: Not much to say here. The lyrics are self explanatory. In a nutshell, there are times where you feel like there are fake people who surrounds you. The way they treat you, you do the same. "Do onto others as you'd have them do onto you."

Song 5 of 25, "Test of Life". Composed July 2016, recorded September 2025. All master and song composition rights reserved.

Trivia: The first four songs I composed were geared towards being "gyal chune". By the time I reached the 5th song, I felt like I should try exploring some unique topics. There weren't many dancehall songs back then (or even today) singing about uplfiment, particularly for the youths who are struggling.

Inspired by certain anthems such as Vybz Kartel's "Thank You Jah" and Vershon's "Real Life", I decided to test my composition skills on the sensitive topic of youth struggle and empowerment.

Song 4 of 25, "Feel the (Summer) Vibes". Composed May 2016, recorded August 2025. All master and song composition rights reserved.

Trivia: At the time of this post, we're out of the Summer season. But throwing back to the mid and late 2010s, there was a big annual Summer party held at Royes Plaza, Junction, St. Elizabeth that I've always enjoyed. Yes, you guessed right, Foam & Water Party.

I attended my first one in 2015, and felt inspired to compose a Summer song based on that experience. This composition was done May 2016 in high anticipation for the next one 2 months later.

The instrumental of "One by One", by Laza Morgan and Mavado felt like the perfect riddim to voice on since it gave that Summer vibes feeling to it.

Song 3 of 25, "Brace It". Composed December 2015, recorded August 2025. All master and song composition rights reserved.

Trivia: From the first time I ever heard , I just kept replaying it because the instrumental sounded beautiful in my ears. From bass, to beat clap, to spanish guitar, to even the flute.

But how I got introduced to it? Well, it was from a song called "Muss Breed", done on the same riddim by former high school colleague, . The song reception I saw him got at the time on FB, , and at , pretty much just overshadowed the likes of 's "Fall In Love" from my perspective.

That said, I decided to see what I could come up with if I took a crack on this underrated riddim. Sadly, I didn't get to record the song back then despite completing the composition. Finding a good studio or getting my own DAW wasn't possible. But better late than never I guess 😅

Song 2 of 25, "Perfect" (composed December 2015, recorded January 1, 2016). All master recording and song composition rights reserved.

Trivia: This is the second song I've composed and recorded. At the time, I decided to try another studio since the first one didn't do a good job with my first song. I also decided to test my versatility on a punchier riddim. At the end of 2015, 's
was trending, so it felt like the "Perfect" riddim to experiment with.

It's a good improvement, but still could be better. Stay tuned next week to see what I came up with for song number 3.

Song 1 of 25, "I Need You" (composed July 2015, recorded August 22, 2015)

This was the first single of Dean A-Plus based on a true story.

Trivia time: I was going through my first broken heart at a young age, and didn't feel comfortable sharing that experience with others because I didn't want to be judged. After getting inspiration from heartbreak songs on my playlist, I decided that writing my own song may be the best thing I could do (else it could've been something worse, like taking drugs 💀)

Pen to paper, the perfect riddim, and the first composition was born. I went to the nearest recording studio, in Junction, but I wasn't pleased with the recording. But there was no turning back. Paid for my studio time and made it work.

I was reluctant to let anyone else hear it. But decided to let my cousin, , and our friend Akeem, be the first to hear the it (plus they had a CD player that I didn't possess in order to convert it to MP3 🤷🏻‍♂️). They were filled with various reactions, but in the end, they encouraged me to share it.

After getting the MP3 version from my cousin using Virtual DJ on his PC, I uploaded the track to Facebook, and got further reactions from my FB friends. When resuming high school in September, there were even more reactions. Many gravitated to the line, "Me nuh know, me nuh know". Some were vocal about the recording being off key, but constructive criticism was soften with them saying it was a good first attempt. They saw the potential and consistently asked me when my next track will drop.

At the time, I didn't have an official stage name set, so I decided to keep it simple by calling myself, "Dean A." However, one of my school friends, , told me to use a name that resonates with my style of music. He suggested I use "Plus" since he knew that my objective at the time was to do positive music. I went home and thought about it, then finally, I decided to merge both names into "Dean A-Plus", with A+ representing good quality music as a lesson learnt from my first track and from feedback.

And with that, the rest is history. January 2016 would be my second track, "Perfect". More info on that next week 🌚☕
