Gertrude Meller (1879–1945) was one of the leading pianists of the British Homochord label during the early 1920s. Today she is almost forgotten, yet her recordings preserve something far more valuable than rarity alone—they capture a living tradition of Romantic piano playing.
Listen closely to this performance of Chopin’s famous Minute Waltz. The freedom of rhythm, the spontaneous ornamentation, and the poetic flexibility are strikingly reminiscent of Vladimir de Pachmann, offering a fascinating glimpse into nineteenth-century performance practice that has largely disappeared from modern concert life.
This is not simply an historical recording.
It is history speaking through music.
These recording were made 1922~1923 at London using the acoustic recording process.

ガートルード・メラー（1879–1945）は、1920年代初頭に英国Homochordレーベルを代表するピアニストの一人として活躍しました。今日、その名はほとんど忘れられていますが、彼女の録音には、希少性をはるかに超える価値があります。そこには、19世紀から受け継がれてきたロマン派ピアノ演奏の「生きた伝統」が刻まれているのです。
自由なリズム感、即興的な装飾、そして詩情豊かな歌い回しは、ウラディミール・ド・パッハマンを彷彿とさせ、現代の演奏会ではほとんど失われてしまった19世紀の演奏様式を鮮やかに伝えています。
