Happy wife, coffee life. ☕️🤝🍫

My ongoing struggle: I love hunting down incredible specialty coffee, and Fiona... well, she usually gets dragged along and is left staring at a menu with barely any non-coffee options.

But here is the ultimate compromise in Sapporo. Coffee & Chocolate Marley is a late-night kissaten that takes its cacao just as seriously as its coffee beans. The pure bean-to-bar craft chocolate kept her happy, and paired perfectly with my dark roast fix.

With some slow jazz spinning in the background, we actually found a cafe we can both agree on.

Since the blooms were a week early this year, we didn’t expect much. But 北海道ノマドレンタカー　completely saved our spring trip! We literally just drove down the pinkest streets, parked, and chilled at the best gems across southern and western Hokkaido. 658km in 2 days just chasing the Sakura. 🌸🚐💨

This is the ultimate day-trip from Tobetsu-cho (near Sapporo) for chocoholics! 🍫

The ROYCE’ CACAO & CHOCOLATE TOWN is a massive, interactive farm-to-bar experience. As long time fans of ROYCE’ chocolate, it’s really cool to geek out on what goes on behind the scenes at the cacao farms in Colombia all the way to the iconic chocolates we all know and love. The space is packed with interactive games, cute photo spots, and behind-the-scenes factory views, we had way more fun than we expected!

💡 Pro Tip #1: Keep an eye out when exploring. There’s a spot along the way where you can redeem free chocolate! 👀
The highlight for us is definitely the chocolate-making workshop! You get to play chocolatier and design your very own custom ROYCE’ bar. You pick the mold, choose the chocolate base, and go nuts with your toppings 🤣
Make sure you hit up the ROYCE’ shop and bakery. They serve up freshly baked pastries and stock exclusive items you literally cannot buy anywhere else!

💡 Pro Tip #2: The soft-serve is great but the hot chocolate drink is a MUST for chocolate lovers!

No kidding, the observation deck’s washrooms were literally designed with the concept of “having the overwhelming sense of openness all to yourself”😱

Also, you can chill with coffee and cake at T’CAFE during the day, or grab a cocktail as you catch the romantic evening cityscape!

What a perfect start to the new year, tossing Yu Sheng to celebrate 60 years of Singapore-Japan friendship! 🇸🇬🇯🇵🍶

True to the SJ60 theme of “Co-imagine, Co-create, Co-evolve / 共想、共働、共進”, we were treated to a next-level Fugu Yu Sheng, prepared by a certified master chef all the way from Japan. We got to taste Torafugu from Miyazaki and Wild Mafugu from Hokkaido. It was our first time trying it, and the texture was surprisingly meaty and chewy! 🐡🥢

We are still reeling from this luncheon (blame the Hokkaido sake 😂), but mostly feeling incredibly honoured to be hosted by H.E. Hiroshi Ishikawa (Ambassador of Japan to Singapore), Mr. Junji Kurokawa (MD of JETRO), and the team at JFOODO.
