It was a pleasure having my friend, Jonathan Seavey visit and train with me today Okinawa Kenpo 沖縄拳法総本部. We spent a couple hours talking and catching up on life and then a couple, or more, hours looking at karate and kobudo katas. Jonathan and I grew up in the same area of Northeastern Pennsylvania, graduated from the same high school about 10 years apart, but only met in Okinawa about 8 years ago.

I always enjoy spending time with Jonathan, but what made today most special was that he took the time to train with me just one day after the passing of his dear sensei, Takushi Seiki, Hanshi 10th Dan, Goju-Ryu Karate & Matayoshi Kobudo.

Takushi Sensei was amongst the latest group to be recognized as an Intangible Cultural Property holder for “Okinawan Karate and Kobujutsu.”

I am sad for my friend, the Takushi family, and all of his students. I know Jonathan will continue to carry on the teachings and traditions of his late and great sensei.

Step back in time at the majestic ruins of Nakijin Castle, perched high above the East China Sea in beautiful Okinawa. 🌿🏰 Once the heart of the Hokuzan Kingdom, these ancient limestone walls hold centuries of Ryukyuan history, resilience, and connection to the earth.

Just like the ancient wisdom preserved in these grounds, true vitality comes from staying rooted in nature. Whether you’re exploring historic ruins or powering through your daily routine, keep your mind sharp and your body balanced with the ancient power of functional mushrooms. 🍄✨
