八丈島は東京から287km南に離れている島で東京諸島の一つの島。
火山島で形成されたこの島はダイナミックな自然が広がっており、水中には溶岩が海水によって冷えた事で生まれた柱状節理が見られる。
黒潮の恩恵を受けているこの島は多種多様の水中の生き物が暮らしている。
島の隣には無人島の八丈島小島があり、ダイバーが行くことが少ないので魚達は興味津々でダイバーに寄ってきます。
気づいたら魚に囲まれている。
そんなダイビングが楽しめる僕の大好きな島の一つ。
Hachijojima is one of the Tokyo Islands, located 287 kilometers south of central Tokyo.
Formed by volcanic activity, the island boasts dramatic natural landscapes.
Underwater, you can see stunning columnar joints—lava formations that cooled and cracked into geometric shapes when they met the ocean.
Thanks to the warm Kuroshio Current, the surrounding waters are home to a wide variety of marine life.
Next to the island lies an uninhabited islet called Hachijo-kojima.
Because few divers visit this spot, the fish there are incredibly curious and often come right up to you.
Before you know it, you’re surrounded by fish.
It’s one of my favorite islands, where you can enjoy truly unforgettable diving experiences.
