Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Ita in West Izu.
It’s about time for dry suit season to start!
With the water temperature at 22°C, just a long-sleeve shirt inside the dry suit was perfectly comfortable.
The guides showed me so many creatures I’d never seen before!
Of course, I also made sure to photograph the superstar of Izu — the Yellow Pygmy Goby!
This season is full of juveniles, which makes it absolutely irresistible for macro lovers.
They also took me to the soft coral area, but unfortunately, the polyps weren’t fully open.
Still, they searched tirelessly, and among the whip corals, we found a few spots where the polyps were blooming — and there was a beautiful glass goby posing nicely!
I’d love to shoot more scenes like that!
Personally, I was especially charmed by a tiny peacock mantis shrimp — it was so cute!
The shallow area was really surgy, so shooting was tough, but the way it waved its arms left and right looked like it was dancing. Adorable!
Huge thanks to all the amazing guides at for always showing me such incredible subjects!
I’ll definitely be back again soon to dive with you all!
