Takachiho Gorge is home to the breathtaking Manai Falls, one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls. Standing 17 meters high, this ethereal cascade drops right over the edge of the volcanic cliffs.  
I missed out on the rowing boat lottery this time, but the clifftop trail didn't disappoint. Walking the path along the edge gives you a bird’s-eye view of the sheer basalt columns and the rushing river below. A reminder that in Takachiho, beauty is everywhere you look—whether you’re on the water or high above it.

today, May 5th, if you visit Japan will notice these iconic windblown streamers are called Koinobori, and they symbolize Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day).
In Japanese folklore, the carp is a symbol of strength, courage, and determination. Legend says that a carp that swims upstream and leaps over the "Dragon Gate" waterfall transforms into a powerful dragon. By flying these flags, parents wish for their children to grow up with that same resilient spirit.
If you look closely at a flagpole, you’ll see a specific order to the family:
🎏The Black Carp (Magoi): Representing the father, the largest and strongest at the top.
🎏The Red Carp (Higoi): Traditionally representing the mother (though sometimes the eldest son in older traditions).
🎏The Blue/Green/Pink Carp: These smaller streamers represent the children of the family.

One of my January dump☺️ As a big fan of Vincent Van Gogh, I had the chance to see his exhibition at the Kobe National Museum on the laast day. The exhibition features 74 paintings from the Kröller-Müller Museum’s collection.
 
If you’re interested in exploring art techniques, the stories behind them, and seeing his evolution in painting style, this exhibition is a must-see (hope for next city if you have a chance). It’s not the most Instagrammable spot, but they’ve allowed you to take pictures of some of the paintings (slide 6-10). 
 
One of the highlight this exhibition is the 1888 painting "Café Terrace at Night." This painting is is a popular art theory that Van Gogh secretly modeled the scene after Leonardo da Vinci’s "The Last Supper." 
 
☕️✨Here are my tips: take a good look at your favorite painting for at least 30 seconds, and keep an eye out for his signature, “Vincent,” on the top left corner. If you spot it, you’ve found a treasure! ✨👍🏻 Also, check out one painting that was discovered to have real flowers behind it using X-rays. 🤭✨
