🫶 Kindness is free 🫶
It’s free and it’s so necessary.
Some people here know that I’ve been a volunteer reader for the blind for over two years now.
A few weeks ago, something happened that made me feel like everything I did was pointless. For a moment, I actually started believing I had nothing to offer. I even said, “I’m not good for anything.”
Then one day, I received something incredibly special in the mail. A hug. A very needed hug.
I volunteer expecting absolutely nothing in return (that’s the whole point of volunteering, lol). I do it because I genuinely enjoy it. Most of the time, I don’t even realize the impact it has on others.
That hug came from them, the people who benefit from something I do purely out of kindness. Something I don’t do for money, recognition, or rewards.
It was a beautiful reminder, at the perfect time, of what really matters. Kindness matters so much. We’re all put in this world with different skills for a reason: we need each other. I truly believe that. We’re not all the same because we have to help each other. And when you put your skills and talents in service of others (not necessarily for free), that’s when life starts making sense.
I’m so thankful for that hug. It gave me my self-confidence back. It reminded me that what I do matters, even if some people take it for granted or don’t appreciate it.
Kindness goes a long way, and it is always the right answer. 💕
