Clearly the B.League have been doing something to their players kasi bilis ng improvement.

Gusto talaga maglaro ni Kai sa Gilas kaso ung may hawak sa kanya, bano mag-manage. Hindi marunong sa schedule, kaya nagiging katwiran ung kontrata etc., nagmu-mukhang umiiwas si Kai Sotto na mag-commit sa Gilas.

Muli, walang mali si Kai. Ung humahawak sa kanya ang problema.

Ervin Sotto father of Kai Sotto has confirmed that Kai has already signed with a Bleague team weeks ago. He also said that, it's the reason why Kai was unable to play for the Asian games due to conflict of schedule and contract with his new team.

"Gusto ni Kai maglaro [Sa Gilas]. Kailan ba umayaw si Kai? Pero hindi puwede kasi nakapirma na siya sa bago niyang team (B. League). Magkakaroon ng conflict sa part namin and that goes to other players playing internationally." - Ervin Sotto



As per rumors, sa isang super team or power housw daw nag sign si Kai.

The Philippines loves basketball. It’s part of the culture, the neighborhoods, the schools, and everyday life.

But loving a sport doesn’t automatically mean the country should make it the center of its entire sports development.

Look at what Filipino athletes have accomplished in other sports.

Alexandra Eala became the first Filipina to win a WTA Tour singles title, defeating Jessica Pegula in the 2025 Washington final.

EJ Obiena has established himself among the world’s best pole vaulters, consistently bringing home international medals for the Philippines.

Carlos Yulo won two Olympic gold medals in Paris 2024 and became a historic figure in Philippine gymnastics.

Hidilyn Diaz gave the Philippines its first Olympic gold medal through weightlifting.

And for decades, Manny Pacquiao carried the Philippine flag into the biggest boxing arenas in the world.

These athletes proved that Filipino talent can succeed on the biggest stage in sports far beyond basketball.

Then there’s Wesley So.

Wesley has spoken about the lack of financial support available to Filipino athletes competing abroad and criticized corruption within Philippine sports, even recalling a situation where there were more officials on the plane than athletes.

That should raise a serious question about where the Philippines puts its resources and attention.

Maybe it’s time to accept a difficult truth: basketball may be the Philippines’ most popular sport, but popularity doesn’t automatically make it the country’s strongest path to international success.

The Philippines has world-class talent in gymnastics, boxing, weightlifting, athletics, tennis, and even chess.

Perhaps the goal shouldn’t be to stop supporting basketball.

Perhaps the goal should be to stop letting basketball overshadow everything else.

The Philippines doesn’t need to become a basketball powerhouse to become a great sporting nation.

It just needs to give its other athletes the same opportunity to prove what they can do.

Flashback: Why Tim Cone sends another team to the 2026 Asian Games

National head coach Tim Cone said putting two different sets of Philippine men’s basketball teams was part of the lessons they learned from the not so recent past when Chot Reyes was then at the helm of the Gilas Pilipinas program.

“It’s kinda smart in my opinion, and I wasn’t the one who came up with idea of making two teams,” he said.

Cone admitted that players get exhausted due to the high-level training required, along with the world-class quality opponents involved.

Cone said they took note of the Asian Games debacle of the Chot Reyes-mentored Gilas Pilipinas squad in the past and decided to form a separate national team comprised of PBA players for the Asian Games.

“I remember that Chot’s team when they went to the World Cup, they played fabulous in the World Cup in Spain and then they had to fly all the way to Korea and play the Asian Games and they just didn’t have the energy to play after that grueling World Cup that they had,” he said.

“So the idea of bringing fresher guys motivated guys to come out and play and play for their country I think it’s a good idea,” he added.

GILAS CAN LOSE BY AS MANY AS 37 POINTS TO CHINA AND STILL ADVANCE 🇵🇭🏀

With Groups A and B already completed, the third-place benchmarks are now set: Saudi Arabia finished Group A at -11, while Iran finished Group B at -5. Gilas enters its game against China with a +27 point differential after the 89-85 loss to Bahrain and 109-78 win over Kazakhstan.

That means Gilas can lose to China by up to 37 points and still finish at -10, which would keep the Philippines ahead of Saudi Arabia’s -11 and secure one of the two best third-place quarterfinal spots. A 38-point loss would drop Gilas to -11 and create a tie with Saudi Arabia, meaning additional tiebreakers could come into play.

So the magic number is simple: lose by 37 points or fewer, and Gilas should still advance. Lose by 38 or more, and the defending champions risk being eliminated. 🇵🇭🔥
