The great cave at Niah National Park 🐦‍⬛🍲

The bird’s nests at Niah National Park in Sarawak, Borneo, are constructed by swiftlets using their sticky saliva. For centuries, licensed local collectors have scaled bamboo poles and rattan ropes to heights up to 60 meters to harvest these nests, which are highly prized for the Asian delicacy, bird's nest soup.

We leave Brunei and drive into Miri, Malaysia! 🇧🇳🇲🇾 Along the way we visit the Billionth Barrel Monument, rent a bright red Proton Saga, and prepare for our Borneo road trip to Niah National Park. We finish the day with dinner overlooking Miri from the Mercure City rooftop.

Don't miss this market! Today we cruise along the Brunei River and spot the incredible proboscis monkeys 🐒 Later, we visit the famous Gadong Night Market 🍢🍜 and honestly think it might be the best food market we've ever experienced. Brunei water taxis (locally called penambang) are motorized wooden speedboats that serve as the primary public transport network for navigating the Brunei River and commuting between downtown Bandar Seri Begawan and the sprawling stilt settlement of Kampong Ayer

Hiring a boat for a 30 to 60-minute river cruise around the water village or into the mangroves (to see proboscis monkeys) usually costs between BND $10 to BND $20.
