‘YOU DON’T GIVE SWIMMING LESSONS TO A DROWNING MAN’

Bela Padilla called out Pangasinan 2nd District representative Mark Cojuangco for his remark about typhoon victims who built their homes on floodplains.

“Respectfully, you don’t start giving swimming lessons to a drowning man, sir. You save him first.” Padilla quote-tweeted in response to Cojuangco’s post that read, “Bakit kasi sa flood plain gumawa ng tirahan? Takaw sakuna.”

Padilla also questioned why local government units (LGUs) allow residents to build homes in such high-risk areas in the first place.

“Common folk don’t know where they can or can’t build. I mean look at Slater Young,” she added, referring to the engineer-content creator whose mountainside real estate project has come under scrutiny after being linked to the recent flooding in Cebu.

Cojuangco made the remark in reply to a netizen who said that all corrupt officials should die following the devastation brought by consecutive super typhoons Tino and Uwan.
