There were not a lot of places I made conscious effort to get into in Tokyo, but was certainly top of my priority list!

We sat at the counter watching Japan’s famous Samurai
Bartender whip up cocktail after cocktail with unparalleled flair for a couple of hours, and I even indulged in one extra drink just for the experience 🤩

Yuzo Komai is the national-champion bartender and star behind Bar Centifolia in Tokyo, Japan. His technique, precision, and creativity are highly-regarded, as he won the title of Suntory Cocktail Award Champion in 2014 - the highest level cocktail competition in Japan ✨

📍 Bar Centifolia, Azabujuban, Tokyo, Japan
🍸 4,000 (approx. £20) each

HOW TO GET IN:

Although the official way of snatching a reservation to this highly-sought bar in Tokyo is to book through TableCheck 2 weeks in advance at 00:00 JST, I didn’t have success with this, as no slots would open. Instead, I went to the bar in person on my first night in Tokyo, and requested a reservation for one of the following nights.

If you don’t have a lot of time, they do take walk-ins starting from 1 AM until closing at 3 AM

Would you visit this bar?

After a warm start to spring in London, I was expecting roses to start blooming around this time, but none of us could’ve expected the heatwave that’s come recently, which made many roses come and go in a flash!

While you can see roses throughout the summer, some popular blossom locations are quickly fading due to the recent heat, so if you’re around now, make sure to visit some sooner rather than later! 🫶🩷

My guide includes both popular locations as well as hidden gems and secret corners 🤫 This photo is from The Hill Garden and Pergola, where I went for a cosy picnic last weekend 🧺

‼️ Remember to respect residential areas and the privacy of the people living in these beautifully-adorned houses

Happy blossom hunting! 🌹🩷

Don’t let the extraordinary feel ordinary 🙏 what feels “normal” today would’ve seemed like a miracle throughout most of history.

I know years ago even my own current experiences would seem like a dream to younger Jess. I feel very grateful ❤️

Happy Friday! 🫶

Would you stalk this man? 👀🎩

The Lamplighter of Wrocław in Poland is an occupation that dates back to the 1840s, when there was no electricity and each gas lantern had to be manually lit and extinguished 🪄

Today, you can still catch a glimpse of this historical tradition every evening (or morning, if you’re an early bird!), as the Wrocław Lamplighter works 365 days a year, no matter the weather! He works on Cathedral Island, where he spends about one hour manually lighting each of the 102 gas lanterns.

While there is somewhat of an official schedule available, the best way to catch a sight of this elusive character is to wait around the Wrocław Cathedral of St John the Baptist about 15 minutes before the official sunset time - this is where he starts his round ☝️

A bit of a local celebrity, I’m told the Wrocław Lamplighter is quite proud of his job, but he is not an official tourist attraction, so he is very diligent in his pace! 🏃💨 He doesn’t mind having people follow and take photos of him, but don’t expect him to interrupt his route to pose for selfies - the man’s got a job to do! 💅

As to other places in Europe where this tradition is still kept alive, as far as I know, only Zagreb (Croatia) and Brest (Belarus) officially employ lamplighters throughout the year - but if you visit Prague (Czech Republic) over the Christmas period, you can also spot a Lamplighter working along Charles Bridge! 🎄

Save this for your next Wrocław trip! 🇵🇱

I escaped into a secret 1940s London Underground station working as an air raid shelter 👀🚇

Tucked away inside Soho’s Kingly Court, entering this Underground exit will transport you back in time for a very cool vintage experience with live music, nostalgic memorabilia, cocktails in quirky mugs, and the feeling of being in a different era altogether!

My favourite cocktail was the apple and pear Vera Lynn - perfect if you love a fruity drink 🍹

📍 Underground, W1B 5PW
🍸 £15 - £16.50

Save this for your next secret outing in London 🤫

No because that little brain got me delirious 😅🧠

Crowned as the Best Bar in The World in 2022, is a hidden bar inside a deli! The cocktails are super inventive and if you like a bit of drama with your drinks, then this is THE place 🪄

Despite that, it is anything but secret, and the virtual queue to get in can be over 2 hours long! ⏰

I suggest going early (it opens from 4pm on weekends) or stopping by to register in the virtual queue while you visit other spots.

During my 90-minute wait, I visited another secret bar only a few minutes away which I’ll reveal in my next video

🍸 from €12
🌮 they also serve small bites

Save this for your next visit to Barcelona ✨
