Homemade bandsaw mill (also called a sawmill or portable band sawmill).

Function: Used to precisely cut large logs into planks or beams.

Main visible components:

Large electric motor (blue) → acts as the main drive, providing power to the bandsaw blade.

Two large wheels with rubber tires → serve as pulleys where the bandsaw blade (metal band) is mounted. The tires help dampen vibrations and maintain blade tension.

Band saw blade → a thin, toothed metal band running from the front wheel to the rear, used to cut wood.

First time using hand tools - dove tails

Hi all. Long time lurker. First time poster. I'm a newbie to wood working in general and decided to buy a bunch of hand tools from Amazon and take a crack at making a keepsake box. Found a really good tutorial. As you can see - my dove tails ended up looking like they were made by a drunken beaver and my mitered corners don't fit together well. I spent a couple hours trying to get everything to fit together and it seems I'm missing something fundamental to get these corners to fit. This leads me to my question: What could I be overlooking? I'm telling myself I'll try to epoxy the major gaps in the dovetails and maybe it will look cool. I think they're beyond tossing scrap wood in there to fill it in. Maybe I'll take it to my dentist if my insurance will cover braces.

Part of a bandsaw, more precisely the blade guide assembly or saw blade holder.

📌 Specific information about the visible components:

Bandsaw blade → A vertically moving toothed metal band. The teeth move downward when cutting.

Blade guide / blade holder → This keeps the blade straight and prevents it from wandering during work.

Side bearings → Two small rollers can be seen on either side of the blade. Their function is to prevent lateral movement of the blade.

Thrust bearing (located behind the blade, not clearly visible in the photo) → Prevents the blade from being pushed back under high cutting pressure.

Materials: Usually steel or cast iron, with steel or ceramic bearings (in modern versions).

Position: corresponds to the top of the band saw, which can generally be adjusted up or down depending on the thickness of the workpiece.
