Japanese anime as well as animation produced in other countries are proving to be a growth engine for streaming services, with Netflix leading the highly competitive race.
Anime series have emerged as massive hits for the American streaming platform and have resonated globally. “Sakamoto Days,” which is about a retired legendary hitman, was on Netflix’s global top 10 list for weeks, and “Baki Hanma” and “Pokemon Concierge” were also popular on the service.

Today, more than half of Netflix’s global users watch anime on its service, with shows such as “Sakamoto Days” and “Pokemon Concierge” proving to be massive hits across the world.

Japan will set up an organization at the Cabinet Secretariat next week that will serve as the "control tower" to coordinate government efforts to deal with crimes by foreign residents, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Tuesday.
"We will promote various policies comprehensively with the control tower to realize an orderly and inclusive society with foreign residents," Ishiba said, asking related ministers to consider concrete measures.

While South Korean imports to the U.S. face 25% tariffs, the same as Trump promised in April, the rate on Japan has been raised by 1 percentage point to 25%.
Both Japan and South Korea saw first-quarter gross domestic product contract on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
Imports of automobiles and auto parts to the U.S. currently incur a 25% tariff, while steel and aluminum attract a 50% levy on most countries.
