Every August, Japan pauses to remember the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima (August 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (August 9, 1945). Memorial ceremonies are held with moments of silence, prayers, and messages of peace.

These annual commemorations honor those who lost their lives, support the survivors (hibakusha), and remind the world of the devastating consequences of nuclear warfare. More than a remembrance, they are a call to build a future rooted in peace, compassion, and hope.

This is Mitama Matsuri, Tokyo's biggest lantern festival🏮

Held every 13-16 July at Yasukuni Shrine, the festival traces its roots to Obon, a time when people honor the spirits of their ancestors.

Around 30,000 glowing lanterns, traditional performances, Bon Odori dances, and festival stalls come together to create one of Tokyo's most unforgettable summer traditions.

Even if you missed it this year, it's a festival worth adding to your Japan bucket list for next summer.

🍜 Happy Ramen Day!

Every year on July 11, Japan celebrates Ramen Day, honoring one of the country's most iconic and beloved dishes.

Established by the Japan Ramen Association in 2017, the date was chosen as a clever visual pun:
- 11 looks like a pair of chopsticks
- 7 resembles a traditional ramen spoon (renge)

The date also commemorates the birthday of Tokugawa Mitsukuni (born July 11, 1628), a prominent daimyō (Japanese feudal lord) who is believed to have been one of the first Japanese people to enjoy a Chinese-style noodle dish that later became associated with ramen.
