WILL TIATY WIN ITS FIRST-EVER COUNTY ELECTIVE SEAT IN 2027?
Since the inception of devolution in 2013, Tiaty Constituency has never produced a holder of any of Baringo County's three top elective positions ;Governor, Senator, or Woman Representative.
With the 2027 General Election drawing closer, the constituency is now setting its sights on the Woman Representative seat, with several aspirants already traversing the county in search of support.
Among those seeking the position are Rebby Jepchumba Sebei and Rebecca Lomong, both of them are from Tiaty Constituency. The Woman Representative race has historically attracted a high number of candidates since 2013.
Area Member of Parliament William Kamket has already taken a personal initiative to campaign for Rebby Jepchumba Sebei, urging residents from other constituencies to support a candidate from Tiaty this time around.
During a recent empowerment drive in Silale Ward, vocal Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also called on other constituencies to back Tiaty in its quest to secure the Woman Representative seat.
Rebecca Lomong will be making her second attempt at the seat after contesting in the 2022 General Election, where she finished third in the closely contested race. Running on a KUP Party ticket, she garnered 25,129 votes.
Susan Nakoru, also from the region, has previously contested for the position unsuccessfully.
Tiaty has in recent years emerged as a crucial voting bloc in county politics. The constituency played a significant role in the Senate by-election that saw the election of current Baringo Senator .
As the countdown to the 2027 elections continues, one question remains: Will Tiaty finally secure its first-ever county elective seat?
