Mwandishi maarufu wa vitabu kutoka humu nchini, anayeishi nchini Marekani, Profesa Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, ameripotiwa kufariki dunia. Kwa mujibu wa taarifa iliyotolewa na mtoto wake, Wanjiku wa Ngũgĩ, kupitia ukurasa wake wa Facebook, Profesa Ngũgĩ alifariki dunia saa chache zilizopita.

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o alijulikana sana kwa kazi zake maarufu k**a The River Between, Weep Not, Child, A Grain of Wheat, Petals of Blood, Devil on the Cross, Matigari, na nyingine nyingi zilizochangia pakubwa katika maendeleo ya fasihi ya Kiafrika.

Katika enzi za utawala wa rais wa zamani marehemu Daniel arap Moi, Ngũgĩ alik**atwa na kutiwa kizuizini kutokana na kazi zake za uandishi ambazo zilionekana kuikosoa vikali serikali ya wakati huo.

Amefariki dunia akiwa na umri wa miaka 87.

The untimely demise of Festus Koros is difficult to comprehend, especially given his ever-jovial spirit and seemingly good health.

Festus was a true patriot, a young man deeply concerned about the well-being and governance of our county. The cruel hand of death has taken from us one of the most promising and dedicated youth of the time.

Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during these profoundly painful moments.

May they find strength and comfort, and may Festus rest in eternal peace.
