THROWBACK THURSDAY |

Some stories get messy.

Long before we started this Throwback Thursday section, we created this conceptual shoot around Gender-Based Violence (GBV) — using mud to represent what happens when a relationship breaks down and people start dragging each other through the worst parts of it.

The mud became a symbol of the blame, anger, humiliation, pain and emotional damage that can follow abuse and toxic relationships. Sometimes, when things fall apart, it feels like everyone is trying to pull the other person deeper into the mess.

But behind every image is a conversation.

This shoot reminded us that photography can do more than look beautiful. It can make people stop, think and talk about uncomfortable realities.

So today, we officially open the SPARTAN PHOTOGRAPHY KENYA TBT SECTION— going back into our archives, revisiting old stories, forgotten frames and projects that still have something to say.

Two days of learning, creativity, and practical photography training at Travellers Beach Hotel, Mombasa.
