📘 DAY 23: How to Connect a Printer to a Network
Lesson Objective:
To understand how to set up both wireless and wired printers on a network for shared use and efficient printing.
🖨️ 1. Why Network Your Printer?
Connecting your printer to a network allows multiple devices—computers, phones, or tablets—to print without needing physical cables. It makes office or home printing easier, faster, and more flexible.
🌐 2. Types of Network Connections
a. Wi-Fi (Wireless Printing) – Connects via your router’s Wi-Fi signal.
b. Ethernet (Wired Printing) – Uses a LAN cable to connect directly to the router.
c. USB Sharing – A temporary method using a computer as the print server.
⚙️ 3. Wireless Printer Setup (Wi-Fi Connection)
1️⃣ On the printer’s screen, go to Settings → Network Setup → Wi-Fi Setup Wizard.
2️⃣ Choose your Wi-Fi name (SSID) and enter the password.
3️⃣ Wait until the printer shows “Connected” or displays its IP address.
4️⃣ On your computer, open Add Printer/Scanner under system settings.
5️⃣ The printer should appear automatically; click Add or Install.
6️⃣ Print a test page to confirm success.
🔌 4. Wired Printer Setup (Ethernet Connection)
1️⃣ Connect the Ethernet cable from your router to the printer’s LAN port.
2️⃣ Ensure the printer is powered on and set to Network Mode.
3️⃣ On your PC, go to Printers → Add Printer and choose the networked device.
4️⃣ Install drivers if prompted, then test the connection with a sample print.
💡 5. Pro Tip
If your printer doesn’t appear automatically:
Check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Print the Network Configuration Page from the printer to view its IP.
Enter the IP address manually in the printer setup window.
🧠 6. Summary
Networking your printer means freedom from USB cables and easy sharing among devices.
Whether wired or wireless, ensure both the printer and devices are on the same network for smooth operation.
