His full name is Ahmed Mohamed Islam, popularly known as Ahmed Madobe. He was born in Qabri Daharre town, the capital of the Qoraxey region in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, in 1950, making him 75 years old.
Ahmed Madobe has served as the President of Jubaland for approximately 13 years.
During his time in office, the United States has witnessed four presidential transitions: from Barack Obama to Donald Trump, then Joe Biden, and back again to Donald Trump.
Within the same period, the FIFA World Cup has been held three times, with Germany, France, and Argentina emerging as champions.
In Somalia, the presidency has changed hands from Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, and then back again to Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
In Puntland, leadership shifted from Abdirahman Faroole to Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, and later to Said Abdullahi Deni, who has served two terms.
Meanwhile, Somaliland has seen power transition from Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo to Muse Bihi Abdi, and most recently to Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro).
Throughout the period of Ahmed Madobe’s rule in Jubaland, several long-serving leaders around the world have been ousted from power, including Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir, Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh, Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, among others.
When Ahmed Madobe first assumed office, TikTok and the widespread use of social media had not yet emerged.
Notably, every Somali president who has come into office during his tenure has eventually fallen out with him, yet none has succeeded in removing him from power. As Ahmed Madobe himself once stated, he entered Kismayo carrying the dead and the wounded—a reflection of the violent and turbulent circumstances under which he rose to leadership.
