Representatives from the Garissa County Students and Youths Association (GACOSYA) paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Hon. Abdi Idle Gure, as part of arrangements for the upcoming Garissa Youth Summit 2025, set for 10th October.
Spearheaded by their Chairperson, Hamza Abdi Mahat, the GACOSYA team formally extended an invitation to the Office of the Speaker to endorse and collaborate in the landmark summit themed, “Youth in Action: Leading Garissa Towards a Sustainable Future.” The gathering is anticipated to attract over 1,000 youth leaders, scholars, and community change agents from across the county.
During the engagement, the team presented the summit’s core priorities, which include fostering youth mentorship and leadership growth, advancing environmental sustainability through tree-planting drives, and enhancing community health via coordinated blood donation campaigns.
The officials urged the Speaker to rally MCAs in championing youth participation, facilitate logistical and material support, and liaise with relevant Assembly committees and departments to ensure impactful collaboration.
In his remarks, Speaker Abdi Idle Gure applauded GACOSYA’s vision and reaffirmed the Assembly’s willingness to partner in initiatives that amplify youth perspectives. He emphasized that youth empowerment, ecological preservation, and health advocacy are essential components of Garissa’s sustainable progress.
“The Assembly remains dedicated to backing innovative, youth-led initiatives that bolster climate resilience, nurture leadership, and drive social transformation in our county,” the Speaker affirmed.
The summit forms part of a wider North Eastern Youth Tour under the patronage of Ms. Charlene Ruto, designed to unlock the potential of young people across the region. Related summits will take place in Mandera on 8th October and Wajir on 9th October, preceding the Garissa event.
The meeting ended with a consensus to establish a liaison mechanism to maintain continuous engagement between the Assembly and GACOSYA in the run-up to the summit and thereafter.
