BREAKING NEWS: Pope Francis has passed away at the age of 88 years today at his residence in Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican.

He had been admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome with severe pneumonia affecting both lungs.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Francis was the first Latin American pontiff.

During his 12-year papacy, he preached compassion for the poor and oppressed, reformed the Vatican bureaucracy, and condemned war in different parts of the world.

He led the Catholic Church for over a decade, known for his focus on humility, climate justice, and reform.
