“No Road Access, No Campaigns” – Butiye Residents Protest 7-Year Neglect of Impassable Feeder Routes
Residents of Silent area in Butiye Ward, Moyale Constituency in Marsabit County have raised concern over the deteriorating condition of feeder roads linking villages within the settlement, saying the network has been neglected for nearly seven years and is now virtually unusable.
The community reports that the paths, which serve as the only links between households and essential services, have become increasingly impassable, particularly during rainy seasons. In some sections, residents say movement has become extremely difficult, with even routine access to the mosque severely affected.
They accuse elected leaders at all levels—including ward representatives, the area Member of Parliament, and county leadership—of failing to address the situation despite prolonged appeals.
“We do not have functional roads. What exists are bush tracks that become completely unusable when it rains. Even reaching the mosque is a daily struggle,” a resident said.
As political activity ahead of 2027 gradually builds, residents have issued a stern warning to leaders, stating that engagement will not be welcomed in the area unless tangible improvements to the feeder road network are undertaken.
