HAWKER’S DAUGHTER, FUTURE DOCTOR: ISIOLO GIRL FACES FEE HURDLE DESPITE SCORING A-
A brilliant Isiolo student who beat the odds to score an impressive A- in last year’s KCSE examination now faces the heartbreaking reality of missing out on her dream career due to lack of fees.
Saafo Adam Sheikh, a proud alumnus of Isiolo Girls Secondary School, defied financial struggles throughout her education, often studying under the weight of fee arrears. Yet, her determination saw her rise to the top, placing her among Isiolo’s best performers.
Raised by her struggling mother who works as a hawker in Isiolo town, Saafo's journey has been anything but easy. Her mother’s small trade barely covers the family’s daily needs, let alone the staggering cost of university education.
Through KUCCPS, She secured a coveted spot at Uzima University in Kisumu to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. However, she has been asked to report on September 8th with a hefty fee of Ksh 305,000 per trimester — an amount far beyond her family’s reach.
Despite the looming deadline, her spirit remains unbroken. She is now appealing to well-wishers, leaders, and organizations to step in and support her dream of becoming a doctor.
Her story reflects the struggles of many bright but needy students across the northern and North Eastern where brilliance often clashes with financial barriers.
For Saafo, the dream is clear: to don the white coat and serve her community as a doctor. What stands in the way is fee.
