UPDATE: Motorists travelling from Nairobi to Western and Nyanza regions during the festive season have been advised to use the Nairobi–Suswa–Narok route as an alternative to the Mai Mahiu escarpment, as authorities move to ease congestion and improve road safety.

Motorists heading through the Central region have also been encouraged to use the Nairobi–Nyeri–Nyahururu–Nakuru route to facilitate smoother and safer travel.

The advisory has been issued as part of a nationwide traffic and security operation launched by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department.

According to the government, the festive season is characterised by heavy traffic volumes, increased long-distance travel, and a higher risk of road accidents, particularly along major highways.

UPDATE: Before their release, Ugandan authorities demanded that Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo refrain from engaging in any political activities against President Yoweri Museveni or his allies.

The duo provided a written assurances through intermediaries that they would not return to Uganda to campaign for opposition figures.

This is according to Njagi’s family, who said they negotiated the release with the assistance of Kenyan officials and influential figures, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, after being informed that the two would otherwise remain in custody until after Uganda’s January elections.
