*BLACK*

Why did they change the colour of the painting of Jesus?
Why did they change vanilla from black?
Do shops stock black toys?
Yet black is as beautiful as other colours.

Why has the black colour been demonized?
Why do you see black with negative thoughts?
Black is dark, yeah? Yet in the dark there's life,
And it's through your darkest days that you become somebody.

Black is the father of colours,
Black is a mother too—
It births light for those equating to darkness,
Without darkness (black) there'll be no light.

Black is my identity,
Black is my pride,
Black is power
I'm black.

*If I Must Die*

In the realm of an imperfectly perfect world,
where the bullets of life are our daily bread,
where we’re bees awaiting the call from above.
Lord, if I’m next, let your wish come into existence.

Brethren, tomorrow may come without me.
Oh Lord, I’m an unprepared preparing being.
Make not your judgment when thy eyes are red;
Make not your judgment when thy eyes are red.

If indeed I must die, let what you want come to pass,
And not what I, a sinning sinner, want.
But if possible—just if possible—have mercy on me,
And take away this cup ahead of me.

But O forgiving Lord, if I must die,
Kindly do not let my footprints die with me.
Let them speak to the generations yet to come,
Let them stand as an indication that indeed I once lived.

If I must die, in their hearts and sanity let me remain.
Let me grow in their minds where I planted a part of me,
And all of me to reside in the hearts of my beloved,
Making a positive impact on their lives.

If it's your wish tomorrow to come without me,
Who am I to object your wishes?

*I Pen in Past Tense*

Mine heart had gotten a dwelling
In thy love had gotten a solace
And the demons in me, thy love stalked
Just from the very day our trails met.

In my head I knew it'll be for eternally
And I thought a journey of single good had dropped anchor
Oops! You've left me swimming in the pool of my thoughts
For I'm left alone in our love penning in past tense.

Just after your divergence my love
Just after you hurt my sentiments
Just after your departure darling
My pen only spurts in past tense.

Though she feeds me with pepper each day,
Still she'll remain being where my umbilical cord was buried;
Kenya's my home, with the head held high I must say,
And I'm a proud Kenyan being fed on peppers.

*And I'm Now 22*

Hurray! My birthdate is today, c'mon let's celebrate!
Twenty-two seasons and yet another is on the way is worth celebratin'
And turning plus one is just the greatest blessing from the Supreme,
I'm elated to glimpse my body and sanity taking new silhouettes.

I overheard that real men do celebrate their achievements and not b/day,
Yeah! But, do turning plus one ain't an achievement?
Hey, it's the greatest one I've ever achieved!
Catching sight of twenty-two isn't like you believe.

I call upon God to be the lamp on the 22nd trip I'm yet undertaking,
And my families and friends, I yearn a company from them,
And most of all, I call upon my body and soul, and intellect to comply with the journey,
A million happy birthdays to me and a thousand wishes.

*Keep Fighting*

At times, our world is painted in black,
One can barely catch a glimpse of his/her way,
And feels like is in a battle with their inner self,
Thereafter, suicidal reflections take advantage!

The night evolves to daytime whilst the daytime dies,
One tries, in vain, to reach for the moonlight,
And the canoe fails to anchor to the better days.
The guy becomes dead, dead from the very deep inside.

I pen down this somber poem to hearten you;
That there'll be light at the very end of your fight,
And your world will turn again be of bright light,
And your face, your face will be full of smiles.
